Privacy notice

Version 2026-09-21. What we hold about you, why, who else sees it, and how to make us stop.

Who is responsible

Doorstep Glass Recycling, 24 Balmossie Meadow, Dundee, DD5 3GG, is the data controller for the information described here.

What we hold

To run your collection: Your name, address and postcode, email address and mobile number; where you keep the box and any note you give the driver about getting to it; which round you are on and which day we come.
What happened on each collection: The date, whether we collected, and if not, why, for example that the box was not out or we could not get access. If a driver cannot collect they may take a photograph of the collection point, so that we can tell you what we found. Those photos are of the spot the box should be, they are only visible to our office, and they are not shared.
Payments: What you pay, when, and whether a payment succeeded or failed. We never see or store your card number, card details go straight to Stripe, who are the payment processor. We hold only a reference to their record.
Messages: The reminders and service messages we send you, whether they were delivered, and any reply you send us, including a STOP, which we keep so that we do not text you again.
If you asked us to come to your area: Your email address and postcode, so we can tell you if we start collecting near you. Nothing else.

Why we are allowed to hold it

To perform our contract with you: almost everything above. We cannot collect from an address we do not know.

Our legitimate interests: planning efficient rounds, working out where collections keep failing so we can fix them, keeping records of what we did and when, and preventing fraud. We have considered your interests in doing this, and none of it involves profiling you or making automated decisions about you.

Legal obligations: we are a licensed waste carrier (WCR/R/1197147) and we keep the records that requires, along with the accounting records HMRC requires.

Your consent: only for things you opt into, such as the text reminder. You can withdraw it at any time without affecting your service.

Who else sees it

Only the companies we need to run the service. Each is bound to use it only for that, and none of them may use it for their own purposes.

Stripe: Takes card payments. Receives your name, email and what you pay.
Routific: Plans the driving order of each round. Receives your name, address, postcode, email and phone number, because that is what identifies a stop on a route.
TextMagic: Sends the text reminders. Receives your mobile number and the message.
Postmark: Sends our emails. Receives your email address and the message.
Our hosting and email providers: The servers this site runs on, and the mailbox we reply from.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. We will disclose it if the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

While you are a customer, and then for as long as we need it for the records we are obliged to keep, normally six full financial years for anything with money attached. Collection photographs are deleted after 90 days, a little over three collection cycles, which is long enough to settle a question about a recent visit. We keep one longer only while it is the subject of a complaint you have raised, because it is the evidence that answers it.

The words are kept for less time than the record. After 180 days we remove the text of messages sent to you and anything you replied, along with a driver's note about a stop, and keep only the fact that a message was sent, when, and whether it arrived. What you wrote in a complaint is removed 180 days after it is resolved, never while it is still open.

If you reply STOP we keep your number on our do-not-text list indefinitely, because forgetting it would mean texting you again. We remove the words you sent; we keep the instruction.

Cookies

Two cookies are always set, because the site does not work without them: one keeps you signed in, and one protects forms against cross-site request forgery. Neither tells anybody else anything about you.

That is the lot. No analytics, no advertising, and nothing that follows you to other websites. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to ask you about.

Counting visits

We count which pages get read, using our own server. That involves no cookies and nothing stored on your device, and we keep no IP address, no browser fingerprint and nothing that could identify you — only the page, the site you came from, a country and whether you were on a phone. You cannot be picked out of it, which is why there is nothing here to ask you about.

Almost every page on this site now loads nothing at all from anybody else. The typefaces used to come from Google Fonts, which meant Google's servers saw the address you were connecting from before you had read a word. They are served from our own site instead as of 12 October 2026.

There is one exception, and it is the whole list.

OpenStreetMap, on a town page that lists the local council recycling centre: the little map comes from them, so their servers see the address you are connecting from. It sets no cookies and we send them nothing about you.

Every other page, including every signup page, loads nothing from anywhere but here.

Looking up your address

When you sign up we offer you a list of addresses at your postcode so you do not have to type it. We ask a company called Ideal Postcodes for that list, from our own server: we send them the postcode and nothing else. Your browser never contacts them, so they do not see who you are, what you are using or the address you are connecting from, and they set nothing on your device. You can also just type your address in by hand, and if the lookup is unavailable that is what happens automatically.

This section exists because the page was wrong before 13 October 2026. It named the map as the only thing loaded from elsewhere, while the signup page was quietly loading that lookup straight into your browser, and the signup pages were still fetching typefaces from Google a day after the rest of the site stopped. The lookup now runs on our side, the typefaces are ours, and this is written down rather than quietly tidied away.

Our own web server keeps a log of page requests, which includes your IP address, the page, where you came from and which browser you used. That is ordinary server housekeeping rather than tracking, we cannot tie it to your name, and it is deleted after 14 days.

Until 12 October 2026 that was not true. A tag container carried over from the old site had been loading Google Analytics and a Meta (Facebook) pixel on every page without asking, while this page said otherwise. The container has been removed from the site entirely and nothing from Google Analytics or Meta is loaded or set any more. It is written here rather than quietly corrected because you were told the wrong thing and ought to know it.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, to correct anything wrong, to delete it where we do not need to keep it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive it in a portable form. Ask us and we will do it within a month, free.

If you think we have handled your information badly, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
