Terms of service

Version 2026-09-21. These are the terms you agree to when you sign up. They are written to be read, not to be skipped.

1. Who you are dealing with

Doorstep Glass Recycling, 24 Balmossie Meadow, Dundee, DD5 3GG. We are a licensed waste carrier, licence number WCR/R/1197147.

2. What we do

We collect glass recycling from your address every 4 weeks, on the same day of your round each time, and take it to be recycled. We text and email you the night before. You leave the box out by 7am at the collection point you told us about.

Collection days can move for bad weather, a vehicle problem, or a public holiday. If that happens we will collect as soon as we reasonably can and tell you.

3. What we can take

Bottles and jars of any colour: wine, beer, spirits, sauces, jam. Perfume bottles and toiletries too. Rinse anything that held food.

Mirrors, Pyrex, drinking glasses and light bulbs cannot be recycled and belong in general waste. A single wrong item can contaminate a whole load, so if a box contains material we cannot take we may leave it, and we will tell you why.

4. Your box

You can use your own container or buy one of ours for £10.00. Once you have paid for it the box is yours, including if you stop the service. We are not responsible for a box that is damaged, taken or lost while it is outside your property, and we cannot be responsible for glass left out before we arrive.

5. Getting to it

We collect from the point you tell us: doorstep, driveway, side gate or wherever suits. We can only collect what we can safely reach: if the box is not out, a gate is locked, a dog is loose, or access is blocked, we will record that and collect next time. You can change the collection point or add a note for the driver from your account at any time.

Very occasionally we have to stop serving an address for safety or access reasons we cannot resolve. If that happens we will tell you, stop charging you, and refund anything you have paid for a collection we cannot make.

6. Price and payment

£5.00 per collection for one box, £9.00 for two, taken every 4 weeks in advance. Some long-standing customers pay a different amount agreed earlier, and that price stays as it is unless we tell you otherwise.

Card payments are taken by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Some customers pay by standing order or direct debit instead.

If we change the price we will tell you at least one full collection cycle beforehand, and you can cancel before it takes effect.

7. If a payment fails

We will try again over the following days and let you know. While a payment is outstanding we keep collecting, one failed card is not a reason to leave someone with a full box. If it stays unpaid after several attempts we will pause your collections and tell you. Your account stays open and nothing is cancelled; update your card and we will put you back on the next round.

8. Stopping, and pausing

There is no contract and no notice period. You can cancel whenever you like, from your account or by telling us. We will not take another payment after you cancel. We do not refund part of a cycle you have already paid for, because the collection for that cycle is already planned and routed, but tell us if something has gone wrong and we will look at it properly.

Going away? Pause instead. We will not collect or charge while you are paused.

9. Your right to change your mind

Because you sign up online, you have 14 days from signing up to cancel and get your money back, under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. If you ask us to start collecting within those 14 days and then cancel, we may keep a fair amount for the service you have already had. A box you have bought and kept is yours; if you would rather return it unused within those 14 days, tell us and we will refund it.

10. If we get it wrong

We will provide the service with reasonable care and skill, as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires. If we miss a collection that we should have made, tell us from your account and we will either come back for it or credit that collection. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

11. Messages we send you

We text and email you about your own collections, the reminder the night before, and anything that affects your service. You can turn the text reminder off in your account, or reply STOP to any message. That stops the texts and we will keep emailing you the things you need to know about your account.

12. Changing these terms

If we change these terms we will tell you before the change applies to you, and the version number at the top will change. Carrying on with the service after that means the new terms apply; if you would rather not, cancel and nothing further is taken.

13. Complaints and law

If something is wrong, tell us first, most things are fixable the same week. These terms are governed by the law of Scotland and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction.
